"As the nation gears up for the 2012 presidential election, Republican officials have launched an unprecedented, centrally coordinated campaign to suppress the elements of the Democratic vote that elected Barack Obama in 2008. Just as Dixiecrats once used poll taxes and literacy tests to bar black Southerners from voting, a new crop of GOP governors and state legislators has passed a series of seemingly disconnected measures that could prevent millions of students, minorities, immigrants, ex-convicts and the elderly from casting ballots. "What has happened this year is the most significant setback to voting rights in this country in a century," says Judith Browne-Dianis, who monitors barriers to voting as co-director of the Advancement Project, a civil rights organization based in Washington, D.C. visit - http://www.rollingstone.com/politics/news/the-gop-war-on-voting-20110830 "

We should be campaigning AGAINST this fool. Not trying to change his mind at this point. IF he gets re-elected then we can lobby him, but right now spend the efforts to TURN the tide of the voters. Get constituents to write LTE's, and put up signs for other candidates, talk to your neighbors, fellow voters and OMMP participants to get him OUT of office.

We should all be calling and writing him to ask him about this crazed notion.

Senator Fred Girod * Party: R District: 9 * Capitol Phone: 503-986-1709 * Capitol Address: 900 Court St. NE, S-217, Salem, OR, 97301 * Email: sen.fredgirod@state.or.us * Website: http://www.leg.state.or.us/girod

1) it does take a physician to recommend a patient's use of marijuana

2) marijuana deaths each year... Zero. Pharmaceutical deaths each year... over 100,000

3) no entry in the OMMA limits patient pot use to 500 individuals

4) Phil Leveque is a fine man and as a pharmacist understands pot's multiple medical uses. For some Leveque's actions concerning marijuana in Oregon is equal to his status as a WWII veteran.

5) why shouldn't a patient with an OMMP card be allowed to operate heavy equipment? Is there anything stating a patient who has been prescribed pharmaceuticals can't operate heavy equipment?

Girod says rural interests top his Senate agenda > http://www.sweethomenews.com/news/story.cfm?story_no=8698

In the recent article in the Sweet Home News, "Girod says rural interests top his Senate agenda," says:

Among the bills Girod has on tap is one that would require medical marijuana users to be under the care of a physician and use an alternative to marijuana if it exists, he said. When the statewide petition to permit medical marijuana use was approved by Oregon voters, It was meant to severely regulate its use to perhaps 500 people. One doctor wrote more than 8,000 prescriptions and has since lost his license and retired, Girod said. Now, some workers are saying it's OK to operate heavy machinery if they have their medical marijuana card.
